You can now apply to the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) for a grant under the Second Chance Act to "establish programs to train individuals in prisons, jails, or juvenile residential facilities for technology-based jobs and careers during the three-year period before their release." (It's not just for juveniles - it's for adults, too.)

Deadline to Apply: March 3, 2011.
Who Can Apply: States, local units of government, territories, and federally-recognized Indian tribes.
Award Amount/Length: Up to $750,000 for one year.
Number of Awards to be Given: 0-5. (So this will be highly competitive.)
What Sort of Tech Careers Qualify? That's defined locally. Some possiblities:
- Computer assisted design in engineering and construction.
- Information technology development and design.
- “Green-technology”-related projects.
- Braille transcription training and certification.
- Wireless and broadband deployment.
- Computer science and programming.
