Reclaiming Futures Ventura County

About Us  |  Our Team  |  News

Reclaiming Futures Ventura County is one of 26 Reclaiming Futures projects using a new approach to help teens involved with drugs, alcohol and crime. We are partnering with the courts, treatment facilities, juvenile justice, community and families to meet the urgent needs of these young people in our juvenile justice system.

Reclaiming Futures Ventura County is expanding services to help teens who are diagnosed with substance abuse or co-occurring mental illness problems. We will increase treatment services and implement the Reclaiming Futures model into our drug court. We have been awarded grants awarded grants from 2009-2013 by the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment, which is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, and the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency. We receive technical assistance from The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

Some youth in Ventura are in trouble. There are at least 130 young offenders each year who are diagnosed with substance abuse or co-occurring mental illness problems that we aim to help. Between 2003 and 2008 juvenile felony and misdemeanor arrests increased by approximately 173 percent.

At Reclaiming Futures Ventura County, we are working to improve the quality of alcohol and drug treatment services available to youth in our justice system. We are doing the following to help young people in our area:

  • Implementing the Reclaiming Futures model into our drug court
  • Increasing treatment services
  • Implementing the Seven Challenges Program
  • Increasing gender-specific treatments
  • Increasing pro-social opportunities
  • Improving coordination with school systems
  • Tailoring treatment to developmental needs of youth
  • Engaging families in all components of the program
